Established in 1894 by James H. Lindsey, founding publisher of The Daily Progress, the Santa Fund is an annual collaborative effort between The Daily Progress, WINA 1070 AM and the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area to raise money for clothing, shoes, medicine and other essentials for needy school children in our community. |
 |
During the 2004/05 school year, 2,138 children received assistance through the Santa Fund. Thanks to the generosity of the community and excellent promotion by The Daily Progress and WINA, the 2005/06 Santa Fund drive raised $116,934.08.
Fund distribution is coordinated by a volunteer through school representatives in the city of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson and Orange Counties who help identify children with needs.
The following local retailers have provided excellent support for the program:
- A&N Stores (Charlottesville)
- Davis Department Store (Dillwyn)
- Family Dollar Store (Louisa)
- Roses Stores (Charlottesville and Farmville)
- Goody's Family Clothing (Charlottesville)
- Kmart (Charlottesville, Waynesboro and Madison Heights)
- Belk (Charlottesville)
- TJ Maxx (Charlottesville)
