In 2015, 2,616 local taxpayers claimed more than $4.4 million in federal tax refunds, earned income tax credits, child care credits and tax preparation fees by receiving free tax preparation from the Cville Tax Aid Coalition.

Did your eligible employees claim these benefits?

This tax season, free income tax preparation is available to low- and moderate-income working families. We are working to help promote use of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to put money back into our local economy.  Anyone with a household income of less than $55,000 in 2016 can receive free tax preparation at any of our sites.

Educate your employees about the Earned Income Tax Credit. We can help. Here are some ideas:

  • Share this flyer with your employees, and post it in your breakroom.
  • Include an insert in W2 or paycheck distribution.
  • Explain the Earned Income Tax Credit to your employees. Contact us for resources that can help.
  • Send an email or put a posting on your website

Representatives from the Cville Tax Aid Coalition are also available to conduct short seminars on the EITC for your organization. Contact us if you are interested.

About the Cville Tax Aid Coalition

TaxAid Logo-01

Individual agency efforts to promote the Earned Income Tax Credit in the Thomas Jefferson Area have been in place for many years. In 2007, Virginia Delegate David J. Toscano initiated a local coalition to coordinate efforts and reach all community members eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Community agencies, businesses, and local government are all part of the coalition.

Partners of the Cville Tax Aid Coalition provide:

  • Free tax preparation for eligible taxpayers through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
  • Education and outreach to share information about how to claim the earned income tax credit and where to get free tax preparation assistance.
  • Employer outreach and education about the earned income tax credit and other financial education programs.
  • Financial education including budgeting, credit scores and banking.

About the Earned Income Tax Credit

TaxAid Logo-01

The Earned Income Tax Credit is a refundable federal tax credit for eligible working families. It can reduce the amount you need to pay in taxes, and could result in a refund of taxes withheld from your earnings throughout the year. In simple terms, the credit allows working taxpayers to keep more of what they earn.

The maximum limit for how much you can earn and still qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit depends on whether you are married and filing jointly and whether you have children. Click here to see the income eligibility requirements and other basic qualifications for the 2016 tax year.

Get Connected to the IRS

The April 17 tax deadline will soon be here. Those who wait until the last minute to file may be rushing to find the tax information they need. Tax preparers, businesses, news media and web masters may also be looking for creative ways to help their clients find IRS tax information and tools.

Consider using these IRS tools to help you or your website visitors navigate the tax deadline.

Protecting your privacy is a top priority at the IRS. The IRS uses social media tools to share public information, not to answer personal tax or account questions. You should never post your Social Security number or any other confidential information on social media sites.
