Impact Areas Images

I want to give now I want to volunteer I need help

United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area brings together community leaders, nonprofit organizations, volunteers and businesses to assess and focus on the most pressing needs and those at greatest risk in our community. We mobilize the resources -- human, technical and financial -- to attack the root causes of these needs. That is how we make life better...right here at home.

It's a Girl!

On Friday, April 11 at 11:19 p.m. Rylan Leigh Frazier was born to parents Lisa and Dave Frazier and big sister Kayla. Lisa Frazier, United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area's Finance Director, is doing well and enjoying her time with her newly extended family. Following Lisa's maternity leave she will return to an anxiously awaiting staff here at United Way. Rylan Leigh will, as many babies have before, spend her first year here in the United Way office with Lisa during the day. To read more please visit our Live United Blog. Congratulations Frazier family!

2008 Initiative for Effective Nonprofits

One of the many behind-the-scenes ways the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area helps strengthen our community is by helping local nonprofit organizations enhance or develop good business practices. Well-run organizations are always striving to better themselves and the services they provide to our community.

The Initiative for Effective Nonprofits is currently accepting applications for grants from nonprofit organizations that provide services to residents of the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. As many as five grants of up to $5,000 are expected to be awarded. The grant application and guidelines can be found on the website,or you can email the Initiative. Applications are due by Thursday, May 15, 2008. Please contact Jon Nafziger, Initiative Director at (434) 972-1701 or email the Initiative with any questions.
