Free Tax Preparation

Free tax preparation assistance for the 2012 tax season will be available January 22 – April 15, 2013 through the Thomas Jefferson Area Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition. There will be twelve tax sites operated by the coalition in Charlottesville and Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Louisa and Nelson counties.

To receive free tax preparation assistance at one of the 12 coalition sites, you must have household income of less than $51,000 in 2012.

What Should I Bring?

  • Government issued Photo ID
  • Social Security cards or ITIN numbers (letter) for taxpayer, spouse, and all dependents
  • Birth dates of all primary, secondary and dependents on the tax return. If married and filing jointly, both spouses must be present.
  • All wage and income statements for 2012 (e.g., W-2, W-2G, 1099-R forms)
  • Interest and dividend statements from financial institutions (Form 1099 Int. or 1099 Div.) if applicable
  • Proof of day-care expenses paid in 2012 including: provider’s name, address and SSN or federal ID number
  • A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
  • For direct deposit refunds to your checking or savings account, bring a check with you to verify the account and bank routing numbers
